The first cup is the quiet one.
A washed Colombian for the hour before the day gets its hands on you.
Red apple, panela, a long clean finish. Roasted in the UK to order and posted through the letterbox, so it is on the counter when you come down. Grind it while the kettle runs. Drink it before the phone.
Inside every bag there is a card. One of the twenty-two laws, printed on thick stock, yours to keep or pass on. The coffee is the point. The card is the gift.

The 22 Laws
of Growth & Freedom
Twenty-two patterns, found in the lives of people who had to earn their ground. Read them slowly. Come back to one.
A man does not rise in one heroic moment. He rises by returning to the work after comfort, failure, resentment, fear, and distraction have all invited him to stop.
One slow, painful brick at a time.
In life, everything meaningful is earned.
Rise Strong. Nothing’s Given.

The Foundation
Washed Colombian. Red apple, panela, a long clean finish.
The first coffee in the range. A clean washed lot from Huila, roasted light to medium for clarity rather than weight, so it is as good black at six in the morning as it is with milk at ten. Roasted in the UK the week it ships, posted flat through the letterbox.

Ben Affleck · Actor, director
He never thought it would be him. Then he told himself the truth.
His father drank every day, and he never imagined following him. Ben Affleck on admitting the problem, the children who refocused him, and a childhood that made him grow up fast.
Asked whether he has had to take a hard look at himself:
Obviously, there are always negatives in everyone’s lives – I don’t think a perfect life exists, no matter how perfect some people think their life is. But I’ve had some harsh realities that I have come to face and there were no two ways about it, I had to be truthful to myself and admit that I was an alcoholic or certainly had a problem with drink. [...] At this stage in my life, I feel a lot stronger with regards to my health and my tendency not to drink.
Asked whether his father's drinking shaped his own:
It has to, doesn’t it? When you see your father drinking every day and drunk it’s got to affect you in some way. I honestly never thought that would be me, but here we are.
Asked whether he has been lucky:
I think we are all lucky, and all unlucky in different ways. I mean, look, my father and mother were divorced when I was 11 and I lived with my mom after that – there’s nothing lucky growing up like that. [...] My mom was working from morning to night so I grew up being very much on my own. No one ever forced me to do anything but grow up quickly… but I’m glad I did.
