RSNG Coffee No. 01, The Foundation: a dark matt pouch with an ember number and a tasting line.
RSNG Coffee · No. 01

The first cup is the quiet one.

A washed Colombian for the hour before the day gets its hands on you.

Red apple, panela, a long clean finish. Roasted in the UK to order and posted through the letterbox, so it is on the counter when you come down. Grind it while the kettle runs. Drink it before the phone.

Inside every bag there is a card. One of the twenty-two laws, printed on thick stock, yours to keep or pass on. The coffee is the point. The card is the gift.

250 g · Huila, Colombia · Washed · Whole bean or ground

    The 22 Laws
    of Growth & Freedom

Twenty-two patterns, found in the lives of people who had to earn their ground. Read them slowly. Come back to one.

A man does not rise in one heroic moment. He rises by returning to the work after comfort, failure, resentment, fear, and distraction have all invited him to stop.

One slow, painful brick at a time.

In life, everything meaningful is earned.

    The Foundation

Washed Colombian. Red apple, panela, a long clean finish.

The first coffee in the range. A clean washed lot from Huila, roasted light to medium for clarity rather than weight, so it is as good black at six in the morning as it is with milk at ten. Roasted in the UK the week it ships, posted flat through the letterbox.

    Inside every bag

    A card in every bag

Thick uncoated card, one colour, one of the twenty-two laws on the front and the whole of it on the back. It comes stapled to the back of the bag and tears off clean. Keep it on the fridge. Give it to someone who needs it.

It reaches you only when it needs you.

An agent on your phone that carries the 22 Laws as its operating code and runs one practice a day in the law's voice. It is not ready. The coffee, the laws and the proof are. Leave your email and you will hear when it is.

No blue. No streaks you did not earn. The accent appears only when something needs you.

    Gavin Oattes · Speaker, author

Be the best for the world, not just in it.

A stand-up comic turned speaker and author, he says most of us spend our energy on the wrong things, and that it is never too late to act.

Asked how to turn short-term urgency towards what matters:

Longer term goals/rewards are part of the problem. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having them but if your long-term goal is to be happy then you’ll never find true happiness. Happiness isn’t even a thing! The Sun Lounger Principle is about taking the energy you have from something that doesn’t really matter in life and applying it to the shit that does. Not happy at work? Do something about it now rather than put up with it. Unhappy in your relationship? Act now before you get to 65 and wonder what if?!

Asked whether purpose matters more than passion:

I love the idea of people being passionate about what they do but I guess you become passionate about things in time. Passion can drive people but purpose for me is definitely key. I really believe that in order to get the most out of life you need to ask yourself if you are trying to be the best in the world, or the best for the world? Best in your team or best for your team? We should all ask ourselves regularly why we’re here?

Asked whether it is hard to stay curious:

I think too many adults have turned into ‘groan’-ups and forgotten what it really means to be curious. It’s the most natural thing to us as children, it’s like we unlearn it the older we get. Remember that five year old child that you once were. He (or she) is still inside you. Rediscover what it means to satisfy your curiosity. Pop your wellies on and go jump in puddles for no reason other than its joyous.
