RSNG Coffee No. 01, The Foundation: a dark matt pouch with an ember number and a tasting line.
RSNG Coffee · No. 01

The first cup is the quiet one.

A washed Colombian for the hour before the day gets its hands on you.

Red apple, panela, a long clean finish. Roasted in the UK to order and posted through the letterbox, so it is on the counter when you come down. Grind it while the kettle runs. Drink it before the phone.

Inside every bag there is a card. One of the twenty-two laws, printed on thick stock, yours to keep or pass on. The coffee is the point. The card is the gift.

250 g · Huila, Colombia · Washed · Whole bean or ground

    The 22 Laws
    of Growth & Freedom

Twenty-two patterns, found in the lives of people who had to earn their ground. Read them slowly. Come back to one.

A man does not rise in one heroic moment. He rises by returning to the work after comfort, failure, resentment, fear, and distraction have all invited him to stop.

One slow, painful brick at a time.

    The Foundation

Washed Colombian. Red apple, panela, a long clean finish.

The first coffee in the range. A clean washed lot from Huila, roasted light to medium for clarity rather than weight, so it is as good black at six in the morning as it is with milk at ten. Roasted in the UK the week it ships, posted flat through the letterbox.

    A card in every bag

Thick uncoated card, one colour, one of the twenty-two laws on the front and the whole of it on the back. It comes stapled to the back of the bag and tears off clean. Keep it on the fridge. Give it to someone who needs it.

Nail your colours to the mast, then be ready to set sail.

Four Oscar nominations before thirty, and a rule about speaking up: nail your colours to the mast, then be ready to set sail.

Asked whether people in the public eye should speak up:

It’s simple for me. I’ve always been of the opinion that if you’re going to nail your colors to the mast, be prepared to set sail at some point! That said, I’ve always found that whole thing about using a platform a bit naff. I don’t think you should ever get above your station; nor would I dare to be arrogant enough to suggest my view is any better than someone else’s, but in the case of me having a genuine interest in fashion and clothes and sustainability and the way we go about what we do… and for whatever reason, the media wanting to repeat those words – well, I’m kind of ok with that.

Asked whether she has always been tenacious:

I was never very bold as a child. I was uncertain about a lot of things, and really relied very heavily on my parents for support, confidence and belief. Even now, my mother and I are like best friends. We're very close and she's always been a role model for me. The relationship with your mam is the most important relationship you’ll ever have in your life, and particularly in terms of those formative years. Your mam is your mam, and I have so much respect for her sense of dignity and integrity. [...]

Asked how actors are regarded by the public:

[...] The thing is, when you’re inside the industry, you realize a lot of actors are disenchanted. I know other actors who are very cynical about this profession. In all honesty, I never want to become like that. I want to be positive and professional in what I do, but also put that same cautious energy into the messages I carry.
